- Goodbye to Our Friend –
It is with great sadness we say goodbye to Connie Carter, who passed away unexpectedly on May 14, 2008 at her home. Connie was 49-years-old at the time of her passing and had been a member of our cooking staff for five years. She will be greatly missed by her family, her co-workers, and the many Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers who appreciated her dedication and caring personality.
Connie is survived by her daughter Lacie Floyd of Denver, and her daughter Kandi Smith of Burlington, OK, and three grandchildren, Dante Floyd, Kelsi Smith, and Kevin Smith.
Donations to assist the family with funeral expenses may be made to Kandi Smith and mailed to Meals on Wheels at PO Box 1176, Littleton, CO 80160. Donations are also being accepted at the Meals on Wheels kitchen at 5844 Datura Ave.
- Theatre Night Nets $25,000 for Meals on Wheels
Friends and supporters of TLC Meals on Wheels were treated to an evening of food and entertainment in March, at the second annual Theatre Night fund raising event in downtown Littleton. The sold out performance of "Fiddler on the Roof" netted the organization $25,000.
"Our 2008 Theater Night was a great success," said Meals on Wheels board president Diane McClymonds. "Not only was the performance one of the best ever staged at the Town Hall Arts Center, but the evening demonstrated the kind of corporate and individual support that makes Meals on Wheels the incredible program that it is."
Patrons gathered in the gallery prior to the performance to enjoy hors d'oeuvres and drinks provided by area restaurants and beverage suppliers. Denver media personality Mark McIntosh emceed preshow activities that included a moving video presentation featuring various TLC Meals on Wheels clients. The girls of Girl Scout Troop 1454 assisted in collecting voluntary contributions to TLC Meals on Wheels.
Theatre Night benefited from the generous sponsorship of CTAM Rocky Mountains, a professional service organization dedicated to the discipline and development of marketing excellence in cable television, news media, and communications services to consumers. Also sponsoring the evening were FirstBank, Lockheed Martin, Lutheran Medical Center, Exempla, and Colorado Business Bank. Other sponsors included Romano's Italian Restaurant, Philnor Liquors, Bradford Auto Body, Senior Helpers, Catering by George!, Michael's Wholesale Flowers, Mingle and Associates, Dry Creek Sertoma, Sertoma Club of Littleton, Coors Brewing Company, Edible Arrangements, PrintPointe, Sushi Basha, 1st Reverse Mortgage USA, Yancey's, Cafe Terra Cotta, Opus, The Blueberry Café, Wild Ginger, Rocky Mountain Bottled Water, King Soopers at University and Dry Creek, Savory Spice Shop, Chocolates by Mary Carol, and Salon Misha.
