History

In 1965 Virginia Baker's daily routine of fixing her parents lunch was extended to a neighbor who wasn't feeling well. The circle of recipients continued to grow by word of mouth and before long Mrs. Baker was regularly serving lunch and providing friendly social contact for 12 people. A neighborhood church loaned her their kitchen for meal preparation and with her volunteers helped deliver lunches to elderly people who were primarily housebound. Her father had a friend in Englewood who needed the assistance, so the program expanded into that community and the Lion's Club began to help with the deliveries.
In 1968 the organization became Town of Littleton Cares, Inc (TLC). By 1975, the program was such a success that it rented permanent facilities from the Littleton Housing Authority at the Bradley House, 5844 South Datura St. in Littleton. Meals continue to be prepared and served from there today.
In 1982 Jan Andrus joined Town of Littleton Cares, Inc as director. Under her care the program has grown to serve over 220 meals daily. For her community contributions, the South Metro Board of Realtors named her Citizen of the Year in 1993. She was recognized again in 1996 when the Littleton Elks Lodge bestowed the same honor.
